They say when you are onto a good thing…..sew another one! I was keen to sew up Wiksten #2 soon after the dress.

This time around I made the tank version with the mods that came from the fitting issues on my initial make. I also raised the neckline 1.5cm so as to be able to wear this without layering and protect my modesty! The other thing I did differently was to take some extra care with the bias binding using Grainline’s method of grading the seam and understitching, which I think gives a better result and definitely worth the extra effort.

The fabric is another rayon found at Spotlight, lovely, drapey and comfy, an ideal top for the last few lingering hot days before the weather chills up (not much sign of that yet!).

On another note, is amyone else joining the Iconic Patterns Jess Jeans sewalong? Historically I have been rubbish at keeping up with these things so we’ll see how I go. I am really throwing myself in the deep end here, never having sewn myself some simple pants let alone jeans! They do say fortune favours the brave (or the reckless and foolhardy in my case) – so wish me luck!

  • Beautiful. You’re making me want to come to Australia just for the fabric shopping! As for the jeans – nothing for it but to dive right in, I think.

    • Thanks Elle! I think most Aussie sewers want to come to the UK for Liberty fabric!

  • Yana

Lovely tank! I really need to pay more attention to rayons in Spotlight, you found some beautiful ones! And you will be fine with Jess sew-along. Lena’s instructions and pictures will make it nice and easy. Look forward to seeing your finished pair!

    • Thanks Yana! This one I found at Spotlight Belrose. I’m sure Lena’s instructions will be excellent.

  • Gorgeous! A lovely fitting tank! I’ll have to re-look at some other Spotty’s, mine isn’t into the lovely rayons ;( I’m hoping to keep up with the Jess sew along as well, they really look lovely.

    • Thanks Nic! I did stumble across this one, Spotlight just like Lincraft can be a bit hit and miss. Look foward to seeing your jeans as well.

  • Check out that fit! You nailed it! I love the fabric and love my local Spotlight, but I don’t think I have ever seen any printed rayons… you find great ones at yours. Might have to have a better poke around next time.

    • Aww thanks Jillian. Try at Drummoyne or Belrose. Thats where I found mine.

  • The fabric is GREAT – you have such a great eye! And glad that your modifications have worked out well…why are they making these tanks so low cut…don’t they know we’re “ladies”!

    • Thanks Mel! Yes, these patterns are not made for the modest “lady”. Random flashing is not really my thing!

  • The fabric matched with the tank shape is genius, it looks lovely. Fantastic photos too!

Good luck with the jeans sew along, am sure you will do a fab job.

    • Wonderful compliment – I’ll take genius anyday! I’m very stoked with the photos, lucky to have such a talented partner who has the patience to get the right photos with my awkward posing!

  • Sarah T

Uber chic as always. I’m not up for the jeans making, but I’m trying her free tank pattern, hopefully next week! Good luck with the jeans (and yay for spotty – love it so!)

    • Thanks Sarah! I have the Sami Cami pattern too but think that may need to wait until I have a few other things out the way. Looking forward to seeing your version of the tank.

  • Ooh, the fabric is awesome! I like the geometric look of it.

My fingers are crossed for the pants sewing! I bought my first pants pattern yesterday, so I know how exciting and scary at the same time it is!

    • Thanks Konstanze! Scary is certainly the word I would use for pants sewing – good luck with yours too!

  • Maider…. Masustak

Love your version! The fabric is gorgeous, its drape is beautiful. I made two versions of this pattern, it´s sooo versatil!

    • Thanks Maider! I agree this is a very versatile pattern, this won’t be my last now I have the fit right!

  • A great second tank! Your amendments look fantastic and I might need to pop out to spotlight this weekend,

    • Thanks Kirsty! I’m glad I now have a customised pattern that fits. Hope you find some goodies at Spotlight!

  • Catherine Alekna

This fabric is from spotlight? wow! It looks excellent on you!
